Common realm misconceptions, addressed.

A treatise by Nathan S. Renfrew

A mark is slavery

The gods are evil

Being in realm inherently affects your health

This misconception, bordering on urban legend, takes many forms, and there are far too many to individually address here; however, I'll take some of the more common ones and address them in bulk.

There are a number of touted positive health effects of being in realm, such as 'rejuvenating', 'removing poisons', losing weight, getting in shape, curing autism or alzheimer's, and fixing heart disease. Similarly, there are touted negative health effects, such as decreasing intelligence, causing an 'addiction' to being in realm, aging you faster, and causing instant death.

Put simply, none of these are true.

Being in realm has no direct bearing on losing weight, aging, or anything else associated with normal biological processes. It is not inherently healthier for you to be in realm. One cannot cure autism or poison simply by stepping over the realm border. The realms cannot fix heart disease, and those of ill health should get a full physical before going in realm.

Some of these have a small basis in fact. Because of the much more physical nature of being in realm, especially on a realmwalking expedition, obesity rates are somewhat lower, and overall muscle density is higher for realm denizens. This, however, is a result of standard exercise, and not of any inherent property of the realms themselves.

Going in realm is stupid and/or suicidal

Realm life is brutal

The realms are anarchistic
