The subcategories of this category sort stories solely on the basis of what kind of transformations occur in them.

Since Shifti is a repository for transformation-themed fiction, in theory all stories should contain some sort of transformation-related material. However, it is often not entirely obvious what category a transformation would fall under so this categorization scheme is somewhat subjective and ad-hoc. Furthermore, an author may not want a story to be categorized based on subject matter for fear of giving spoilers or otherwise pigeonholing it inappropriately. As a result, not all stories will necessarily be categorized here.

Stories may also fall under multiple subcategories.
