|In this past October (2020) the Shifti Community lost Chris "Robotech Master" Meadows to an accident involving an SUV hitting his electric bike and leaving the scene. While we may never know the full story of this event, the administrators of Shifti will work to preserve his account and works here as he'd wish us to. Thank you all for being such excellent people.|
I'm noting these down as I go, so some of the earlier comments might be addressed later in the story.
I find it odd that Bugs assumes that all RIDEs are fettered against harming humans: they were developed as military equipment, after all.
Depending on Pole Star's mass and distance from Zharus, it could strike with considerably more energy than a gigaton bomb. It has become a kinetic kill vehicle.
While Zharus does have a convenient uninhabited landmass in the form of Rodinia, the climatic consequences of any sufficiently large impact are rather eschatological. Indeed, the ensuing impact winter is likely to be worse with a terrestrial impact.
Okay, now I'm confused. How could any RIDE, especially an ex-mil RIDE, not know about bodyjacking? It's an excellent way to take prisoners, and a RIDE's ability to operate fused with an unconscious rider is a major feature.
A dozen worlds?! This must be a far-future fic, then, set after a way to synthesize qubitite has been discovered. Alternatively, after Earth got a little too acquisitive and Zharus decided to push back.
Hm. I'm at the Engineering Explosion. If this was Fenspace, I'd suggest an emergency biomod, but in the absence of spare Handwavium, the options appear to be (a) pray, or (b) induce Integration. Option b may not be available.
Oh, so he was smuggled off Zharus? I suppose that explains a number of things, although I'm not sure I buy that it would be possible.
... And I'm done! I'd like to hear more about the Pole Star Survivors sometime (did Milly make it?), and there are a few typos I'll just correct myself since this is in the main namespace. All in all, an excellent story. --Proginoskes (talk) 00:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback I'm glad you enjoyed it. In the order mentioned. Bugs is pretty damn new and innocent and assumes her fetters apply to the majority of RIDEs. Based off back of the envelope calculations Pole Star wasn't quite a dinosaur killer in scale but was within spitting distance, whatever what beneath it would be in trouble however it's a countergrav society, they could fix a good chunk of the damage within a few years. Abe, as you later figured out, was not raised on Zharus, he was smuggled out (around the time of the Nextus-Strumhaven war) and sold to a mercenary company where he spent the majority of his life. As such his knowledge of how RIDEs work is pretty shaky. The rest of the characters might turn up in Hollins' cases but that does rather depend on me finding the time to finish them. --Fibio (talk) 09:02, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
