Thanks for commenting. This may not be canon for Xanadu, but I was theorizing that a very strong fantasy may also have triggered a transformation. This comes up again later in the story (which isn't finished yet). If this doesn't work, or strays too far from Xanadu canon, I'll figure out a different trigger to make it make sense.
