In this past October (2020) the Shifti Community lost Chris "Robotech Master" Meadows to an accident involving an SUV hitting his electric bike and leaving the scene. While we may never know the full story of this event, the administrators of Shifti will work to preserve his account and works here as he'd wish us to. Thank you all for being such excellent people.

Mirrors in Golden Mirror

I didn't find active version of Golden Mirror (I strongly hope that it actually exists somewhere though) so I decided to put my comment about the story here. When I started reading the story, I was fascinated by the concept with Shapers and magical mirrors. To a point in the story I was sure that mirror of a Shaper is a purely magical object actually inseparable from the Shaper's soul or entity. There seemed to be some clues in the text at the beginning (just after protagonist gets into the new world) which lead me to the conclusion: like words of the dungeon guard who suggested that protagonist should have been able to melt entrance door of the dungeon with he's mirror if he really was a Shaper. Then there was The Forge all new apprentices were meant to be brought to before they could start their training as Shapers. I thought this Forge was a kind of powerful artifact used to magically melt entities of new Shapers and forge their internal mirrors using their souls as raw material. It seemed logical to me from the part of story a read at the moment, as only some people with very special mental inclines were able to stand process of their souls been melted and reforged to form magical mirrors of Shapers, of course if their souls were strong enough in addition. Finally there was strongly developed art of alchemy described already on the early stage of narration. I thought the art was used by Shapers on one hand to create artificial mirrors having certain powers of true internal mirrors, but on the other hand to learn and understand the true power and to adjust the way this power actually effects the Shaper and world around him by adjusting their internal mirrors with their will. Now I think that the only true reason for me to come to those conclusions as I started reading the story was that I liked the concept that way. What it actually turned to be as I read whole part of the story I was able to find, wasn't what I hoped it would be, but I'm still eager to read farther parts of the story if they are or will ever be created. Actually I put this comment here as it is because I hope that author would like to use the concept of internal mirrors described above in parts of the story he might wright in future. There are some suggestions near the end of the story part I had read that might lead to something like internal mirrors (I mean the suggestion that some day new mirrors of living material might be created and they will be able to alter inanimate objects like metal mirrors of the world can change living beings). At least that gives me something to hope and wait for. Anyway my best regards to the author of Golden Mirror. The story is very good even with the purely artificial magic described in it so far :) GreyDragon 10:04, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Blanked pages

What would you like me to do with your various blanked pages? Normally I'd take page blanking like this as a signal that you want the pages deleted, but you say in User:Fish/CYOE that you're going to eventually be posting the completed works again. At that time it'll be possible to merge the revision histories of these pages into the history of the finished work, if you like, so it might be simpler to just leave the blank pages in existence until then. Alternately, I could delete them now and undelete them later. Bryan 05:21, 14 November 2007 (EST)

Doesn't really matter to me — that'd be an internal, administrative-level decision. I don't know what effect it'd have on the software to keep them, but I suspect preserving the revision history consumes valuable disk space that probably is needed elsewhere. I'm not even sure that I'll restore the CYOE in the same order, in the same hierarchy, with the same characters, in the same location as before, so saving all of it might just be a waste of space and time. --Fish 17:03, 14 November 2007 (EST)

It doesn't, actually. "Deleted" revisions are actually retained, stored in a separate database table so that admins can see their contents and potentially restore them if need be. But it'd probably be tidier for wiki management purposes to delete them for the time being. Bryan 23:36, 14 November 2007 (EST)
Go ahead and delete them, then, I guess. When I put the pages back up I intend to title them something a bit more descriptive. Using numbers makes it hard to keep track of which pages are which, both for me, and for readers who want to pick up at a favorite story branch. --Fish 17:27, 16 November 2007 (EST)

Template:My stories

Hi, just thought I should drop a note here since I imagine most authors won't be regularly checking Help:Templates for updates. I've finally added a template that I should have created long ago, a tag to put on userpages to facilitate linking to your personal story category; Template:My stories. If you want, just stick this code at the top of your userpage to create a standardized little box with a direct link in it: {{my stories}}. Bryan 22:23, 18 January 2008 (EST)
