Suggestion for the style sheet: Ability to change text size. The default is a little small for comfort if you're sitting a healthy distance from your monitor. --Buck 00:29, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

I think this is easier to do with Opera, FireFox, etc... than with IE. In FireFox I have a custom stylesheet for specific sites that changes the default text size. — ShadowWolf 22:34, 30 August 2007 (EDT)

Um....

I think my stories "The Continuing Adventures of a Lunatic Feline", "Subjugation", and "Project Earth", --as well as the "Project Earth Storyverse"--have vanished. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to find their cache... help? Masterweaver 00:30, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Captchas

A captcha for every edit? I missed that discussion. :) Seems like an overreaction to me, a captcha is intended to prevent automated bots from operating but this most recent episode of spam didn't look automated so it wouldn't have made a difference. And it was quite small and easily dealt with by conventional means, in any event. Bryan 19:52, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

Only the main namespace has that. The rest of Shifti is only captcha'd on account creation, login failure and when a URL is added to the page. ShadowWolf 20:42, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

I haven't had any problem with the captchas ( just to make sure though those are the image verifiers that pop up after you hit submit?) it doesn't take more than a second to deal with and if it stops bots it cant hurt as another layer of protection.

After the problems Felix ran into with the Captcha system, I've changed the system so that 'authors' group people are not going to be facing it. — ShadowWolf 23:47, 3 January 2008 (EST)

Get Well Soon

Don't push yourself too hard, Shadow. The last thing we want is an acute case. I'm sure we'll get the new router/modem this week. --Buck 15:34, 4 February 2008 (EST)

I'm willing to front some money in order to get that router/modem hardware here sooner. You said it was the cheapest place you found it. What's the price difference between this place and, say, NewEgg or Best Buy? --Buck 16:06, 5 February 2008 (EST)

Huzzah!

What the title of this section says. :) Bryan 16:11, 22 February 2008 (EST)

Small addition

You might want to mention explicitly that the funds we collected during the recent fundraiser will still go toward maintaining Shifti, just in case people think putting off moving to a new host means we're going to pocket the loot and live the high life off of it. :) Bryan 19:56, 28 March 2008 (EDT)

Shifti Hardware Stuff

What sort of power draw do we expect for the upcoming server setup? I have to go UPS shopping anyways for Temple purposes and I could probably sneak some Shifti purposes in there too. Viqsi 16:17, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

"Hal" (the webserver) has, IIRC, a 500W power-supply in it and I was planning on the PS for Draco's permanent replacement being at least that. So Maximum power draw for them will be about a kilowatt. Factor in the router (which, IIRC, draws under 50W), the WYSE-50 attached to "Hal" and the screen that will be attached to the database server...
Since things go sideways if the WYSE-50 is turned off I can't cut that out, but the screen for the replacement will likely be turned off if a power-fail happens... As long as the UPS can drive "Hal", the router and Draco's replacement (I'm thinking of naming it 'Wolf') for an hour we should be fine. (for longer outages than an hour I don't think anything short of a full generator on a power-fail auto-start would help...)
--ShadowWolf 16:56, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Sounds like we'd want to do multiple UPSes (one for Hal and WYSE-50, one for Draco/replacement and router), then. I'll have to look at prices and durations a bit.
--Viqsi 17:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
I've looked into building them from scratch around sets of automotive batteries, but the charging circuits were always listed as "get this from a broken UPS" or "you don't really need one, but to be safe do X,Y & Z". I may have a bent towards the practical when it comes to saving money, but I fail to see why I should risk a lead-acid battery blowing up on me (or why I should waste the money on a "dead" UPS for one part) when I can get something that has been rigorously tested (I hope!) and proven to be safe.
And when I've thought about it I usually looked at getting 2 myself. But "beggars can't be choosers" :) -- ShadowWolf 17:06, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
