	{{dropcap\|T}}he thick grey metal blast door protested loudly as it lifted out of a shallow recess in the unpainted concrete floor, a pair of large gears caked in black grease clawing it up into the ceiling. As the gap slowly grew an armoured boot began to tap impatiently on the textured metal floor of the large freight elevator. Eventually the sole occupant grew tired of waiting, bent down and ducked under the still rising barrier. Her facial features remained those of a tiger with a slightly longer muzzle and textured pupil-less eyes. Her arms and legs remained feline in appearance with furry paws, but her hands and forearms were devoid of fur, instead covered by a soft black hide that ended in a set of short stubby claws. Holding the beam on Fiona the soldier began to look a bit worried as the glowing energy blob continued to expand and only managed to relax once it started to coalesce into definite physical form, albeit one that stood at least 12 feet tall.


			As the white glow began to fade some distinctly feline features became apparent, but unlike her fairly conventional synthetic shell, her new biologic body had bright blue fur with black stripes and white countershading. Her new form had the massiveness of a polar bear but with longer digitigrade legs that allowed a somewhat hunched bipedal stance, which in turn was balanced by a thick tail that extended out some distance, tapering to a prehensile point. From her head a dense mane of ivory hair flowed down her neck and upper back while a set of brown spiral horns corkscrewed up from the sides of her skull. Her facial features remained those of a tiger with a slightly longer muzzle and textured pupil-less eyes. 	Flying across the concrete apron the small autonomous transporter approached the launch pad indicated on Serena’s itinerary. The pad was one ~~of the older ones~~ surrounded on three sides by large concrete blast deflectors of the type ~~that were common~~ before force fields ~~became common and sitting~~ in the middle with room to spare was an old Orion II class scout ship ~~of 2,500 tonnes standard displacement~~. A classic design~~, the ship incorporated~~ limited aerodynamics with two large main engines ~~set just outside of the hull~~ at the ~~roots~~ of two ~~stub~~ wings ~~which had a span~~ about ~~one~~ half the length of the ship. The navigation cockpit was set up high on the front of the ship with a docking bay set up for boarding hostile or derelict ships below it in the bow. At the rear the loading ramp was down to provide access to the multi-mission cargo hold which occupied the rear half of the central part of the hull with engineering amidships and crew quarters forward. From there twin tail fins extended upward from either side of the cargo bay with a faded civilian registration sharing space with freshly applied military insignia representing the university and nation state. Written on the rear hull just above the cargo door was "WS SLEEPING GIANT - New Haven, CT :: 537". The scoot pulled right up to the rear of the ship and as Serena opened the door to get out a rather high pitched voice called out to her. After that evening's excitement in the cafeteria Serena had had a point to get properly pissed, but with the supply of purloined whisky running low combined with her biologic body's above average metabolism there would be no way to make it through the night using traditional "self" medications. While unhealthy, Serena's penchant for indulgence had always been limited to her brief stays in human form which drastically limited the potential for long term damage. Now faced with a biologic stay that could perhaps stretch weeks or months the career warrior struggled with a problem that has suddenly become problematic.
