Back to Reality
November 19th, 2007
Made it home from con finally. Was a long drive home, but I'm glad to be back. My roommate is still off at work, so I hope to see him later tonight. There is also a furmeet coming up on Thursday that I don't plan on missing for the world. Apparently the local organizer has some info for me because of the con. See any of you on my friends list there.
Current Mood: Tired
Current Music: Meat Loaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Lights
Tim left the computer and went to the living room to play some video games before his roommate came home. He ran over the events of the past weekend in his mind. Everything was rather earth shattering, from this 'Reality Distortion Field' that had collapsed, to finding most of his friends were the creatures he dreamt about. It really was a brave new world. He did worry about whether he would fit in though, not really being part of the 'club' so to speak.
Tim though out loud, "Oh well, I guess I'll deal with that on Thursday. But tomorrow is work, back to life, back to reality." He giggled as that old song popped into his head. After a while he heard the door to the apartment open. He heard Morgan, his roommate call out. "Hey Blue, see your home, how was the con? Sorry I missed in, damn managers."
Tim kept his attention on the TV while he worked towards a save point. "Con was wonderful. You wouldn't believe what happened there." He finally made it to the save point, and turned around, seeing a large skunk standing over him. Tim just grinned, then started to laugh, rolling and falling off the couch.
Morgan looked at his roommate confused, "What is wrong with you? What's funny? Do I have something on my shirt or something?"
Tim took a few moments to get himself together. "Sorry, I just wasn't expecting a skunk, I thought you might've been a horse, but not skunk. That explains all the air freshener we've gone though."
Morgan just stood there, as if his mind had hung a bit, like a 286 trying to run windows. The skunks eyes widened with realization. "Wait a moment. You can see me as a skunk?! How?"
Tim grimaced, "Sorry Morgan, I guess I should've said something to you while I was at the con. It seems while I was there, the field collapsed for me, and well, now I can see everyone as they really are. Although I am surprised to see you like this, considering how much of a horse fanatic you are."
Morgan crossed his arms and looked down at Tim. "Rub it in why don't you. Yeah, I'm stuck as this black and white mess, when I'd rather be a regal, wonderful horse. It's not fair."
Tim got up out of the couch and walked around, giving Morgan a big hug. "Sorry man. No more jokes ok?"
Morgan nodded. "Thanks. But you-- you can see! That's great. Now I don't have to keep anything from you anymore. How did it happen?"
Tim laughed. "Yeah, I heard that a few times this past weekend. Let me tell you everything that happened."
They ended up talking for hours before heading off to sleep. Tim very happy that his world was finally opening up, and really couldn't wait for Thursday.
"Morgan, the last two days at work was just so weird. I kept seeing furs, not many but they were there, and I couldn't say a word about it in public out of fear. How do you do it?" Tim looked over at his roommate, who he had learned just Monday was a five foot tall anthropomorphic skunk. They were waiting till it was time to go to the local furmeet, Tim's first since the events at the con.
"You just have to learn how to deal with it Blue. Though that is what these weekly meets are, a chance for us to get together, and relax without worrying about the humans around, present company exempted. The biggest problem you have is that since you are not a fur yourself, it's harder to make yourself known to other furs. For the rest of us, it's rather easy to pick each other out." Morgan laughed.
"That is a problem. Let me grab my jacket, we can walk to the meet, it's only a couple miles away, besides, I'm not sure how you're going to get that tail into my car. I wondered why you took the bus everywhere." Tim got up and fetched his jacket.
"Now that is something I have over you, with this fur, I don't need a jacket in weather like this." Morgan gloated as he opened the door for Tim.
Tim just shook his head. "Darn you with your built in fur coat. I can't wait for August now." Tim fluffed the skunk tail as he passed. "Come on fluffy, get your tail in gear."
Morgan and Tim walked down the street. "You know, there's got to be some way to let folks know I can see them without shouting out 'hey, you with the tail.' But everything I can think of is out of either bad spy movies or ones with secret societies. You know, secret code words like, 'The Fox Yerfs at Midnight' or some special piece of jewelry."
"Actually, we do have something like the latter." Morgan held out his arm. "See my Medi-alert bracelet? That odd sickness printed there is a way to tell the medical folks that we're furs. We're then transferred to a doctor who specialises in this 'disease.' Slick huh?"
"That works, just not for me. I guess we'll have to come up with something else." Tim just shook his head. "Oh well, looks like we're just about there. I hope there's someone willing to play Sly Cooper with me there." Tim walked up to the door of a plain brown house, and gave the door a knock.
The door opened after a moment, with a large ferret looking out at the human and skunk. "Morgan. Tim! You made it. And I hear you have great news for everyone." Tim looked at the ferret with a slightly confused look. He couldn't quite place the high pitched squeaky voice. "Oh! Sorry. I'm Crim. Sorry I kept missing you at the con." The ferret waved his paw, "Come in, come in, everyone's already here."
Tim nervously went in the door, and made his way to the living room. Just like at the con, it was as if there was a small zoo in the house. "Hello everyone," Tim announced himself to the group that was chatting or playing video games.
"What's a 'norm' doing here, I thought this was a fur only event?!"
Tim winced as the vixen in the back made her protest, but heard Morgan behind him. "Call Blue a Semi Fur. He can see us, so there's no reason he should be left out. Viqsi, I vouch for him." Tim smiled back at his roommate.
Tim looked across the group of furs. "Yeah, too many years of mixed furmeets, and cons, caused the field keeping me from seeing to fall at the con last weekend. I can see you all. I see a skunk beside me." Tim pointed to the furs, naming off their species. "I see three raccoons, four more foxes, a few cats, a horse in the back, and a few species I don't think I know." Tim smiled as he saw that the group was satisfied. "Now? Can I get a seat? We just walked from our apartment."
A seat opened up on the couch and Tim took it. Everyone got back to normal, and it turned into any other furmeet he'd been to. Talk of furs, movies, computers, the normal geek stuff. And yes, he got a few games of Sly Cooper in, with one of the foxes playing Carmilita's character.
Tim got up for another drink and went to visit the other raccoons. "Hello, hope I'm not interrupting. I was hoping to talk to you guys tonight, find out what it's really like to be a raccoon."
